Day- by- day- Itinerary

Day 1: Varna
Welcome to Bulgaria’s Black Sea Capital! Depending on the time of your arrival, information will be provided to you, so you will not miss visiting “ the Maritime capital of Bulgaria’s” highlights.

Day 2: Sozopol
Today you drive south along the  Black sea coast to the town of  Nessebar. You visit  the Old Town of Nessebar – a historical museum in the open perched on a tiny peninsula in the sea. You can take your time to unwind and relax and have lunch by the romantic fishermen’s harbor or take a stroll down the winding cobbled streets of the old town flecked with inviting taverns, art galleries and souvenir shops. In the afternoon you travel further south towards the coastal resort of Sozopol famous for its preserved Old quarter, summer music festivals, beautiful sandy beaches and tranquil relaxing atmosphere.

Day 3: Kazanlak
This morning you will leave the coastline and head towards the interior of the country. Passing by the heart of the Thracian valley, you can stop for lunch in the town of Sliven, nested picturesquey at the foot of the Balkan Mountain. Then you will travel to the Bulgarian Rose Valley- the home of the Bulgarian Rose “Damascene” and last resting place for many Thracian Kings. Here you will visit the imposing Kaznalak Thracian Tomb and learn about the Thracian art and enhanced culture.

Day 4: Veliko Turnovo
Today you will cross the gorgeous Balkan Range through the picturesque Shipka Pass. En route you should not miss visiting the Shipka Memorial Church in the village of Shipka. Your next stop will be at the Etara Architectural reserve situated in the heart of the Balkan Mountain close to the town of Gabrovo.Here you will take a walk through the preserved cobbled streets of what looks like a Bulgarian village where time has stopped centuries ago and traditional Bulgarian crafts are presented in a myriad of authentic workshops. Take your time and try the fresh homemade bread and the aromatic coffee they will serve you the way they did in the 18th century. The next place you will stop by today will be the nearby Sokolski Monastery which fascinates with the spectacular panoramic view of the surrounding mounts. And last but not least en route to Veliko Turnovo, you should pay a visit to the mysterious Dryanovski Monatsery sheltered between the mighty mountain curves and surrounded by plenty of beautiful hiking trails.

Day 5: Lovech
This morning you will explore the significant landmarks of Veliko Tarnovo starting from the picturesque Tsarevets Fortess where you will learn about the bravery and pride in the history of Bulgaria’s glorious Medieval capital. Next you will visit the nearby village of Arbanassi which used to be an important merchant and cultural centre during the Bulgarian Revival Period. In the afternoon you will take a short trip to the town of Lovech, wherw you should not miss exploring the Old Quarter and the Kolio Fitcheto Covered Bridge- a true masterpiece of its time.

Day 6: Koprivstitsa
In the morning you will travel to the Troyan Monastery founded in the late 16th century and home of one of the holiest icons in Bulgarian Orthodoxy - the Three-Handed Virgin. It boosts intricate woodcarvings, splendid frescoes and exquisite architecture. Afterwards you will drive through the Troyan Pass in the Balkan Mountain Range to the town of Kporivshtitsa, a museum-town impressive with its revival architecture and authentic atmosphere.

Day 7: Sofia
We will travel back to Sofia where we will have a free afternoon to get to know the city and  visit some of the symbolic city landmarks , starting with the imposing St.Alexander Nevski cathedral - the seat of the Patriarchy of Bulgaria, the St. Sofia church after which the city was named back in the 14th century, the ancient ruins of the Roman fortress “Serdika” and the Martyr Saint George Rotunda, the National Theatre, the old Bath House, the Banya Bashi Mosque - a remnant of the Ottoman rule of Bulgaria that lasted nearly five centuries.

Day 8: Plovdiv
The highlight of this morning will be the Rila Monastery - a true architectural masterpiece of its time fascinating with its distinguished works of art. The afternoon you will spend in Plovdiv - a city with rich cultural and artistic heritage.  You should explore the Old Qarter of Plovdiv famous for its spectacular Roman Theatre, the multitude of tiny art galleries and the authentic cobbled streets lined with Revival period houses.

Day 9: Shumen
The day will start  with a short and scenic trip to the Batchkovo Monastery - the second in size and importance monastery in Bulgaria founded during the Second Bulgarian Kingdom and impressive with its picturesque location and extensive icon collections. Then you will travel east towards the heart of the East Balkan Mountain to explore the town of Zheravna, an intriguing architectural reserve that enchants with its authentic atmosphere and consists of preserved Revival period houses. Here you should visit the town’s Ethnographic museum and try the delicious local specialties for lunch. Tonight you will stay in Shumen famous for its imposing Tombul Mosque - the biggest temple of its kind in Bulgaria and second in size on the Balkan Peninsula.

Day 10: Varna
Today your trip will finish with your return to the city of Varna unless you decide to extend your stay and spend one more magical week in one of the inviting resorts on the sunny Bulgarian Black Sea coast! (B)
